The Palestinian Environmental Friends Association, in collaboration with Trigon Associates, LLC, successfully implemented a project funded by the Canadian Feminist Fund titled ” Strengthen and empowering participation of women in environment protection and green agriculture sectors at   Rafah governorate” The project was carried out in the Saudi neighborhood of Rafah and targeted 100 households and 40 female farmers.

The project’s aim is to reduce solid waste by reusing household waste to produce organic fertilizer and to raise awareness about the importance of source separation, which has positive impacts on individuals’ and the community’s health. Additionally, it empowers women by involving them in decision-making processes to improve solid waste management. The project also seeks to enhance the livelihoods of small-scale female farmers by providing agricultural inputs and utilizing organic fertilizer produced from organic solid waste collected from the targeted households.

The project included various activities, such as conducting awareness sessions for residents on the significance of solid waste management, distributing waste containers and bags to encourage waste sorting, and distributing organic fertilizer produced from organic waste to 40 female farmers. Furthermore, local community committees and a women’s committee were formed to oversee project implementation.
